Induction Wing
Overview
The Induction Wing is the primary tutorial area encountered at the start of the game. It functions as the processing center where the player character is formally admitted, receives their GATEPal, and is walked through the basic systems and expectations of life in GATE. The layout and set pieces of the Induction Wing establish recurring mechanics and characters the player will interact with later, and it contains a small number of persistent points of interest that can be revisited after the opening sequence.
A portion of the Induction Wing is reachable again via a portal located in the mines in Manufacturing West. Using that portal transports the player to an upper floor in the Induction Wing — specifically the floor where a guard stands during the initial tutorial — allowing exploration of areas that are otherwise inaccessible during the opening sequence. This revisitable area houses the
Ordo Storage is attached to the Induction Wing complex as a large storage area visible only from the outside. Within the story, Ordo Storage is described as having been largely raided by The Order, leaving it emptied and observable only externally during the course of normal exploration.
The Induction Wing places several named non-player characters who conduct or participate in the tutorial sequence and basic processing routines. These NPCs appear during the initial tutorial and serve as dialogue anchors and quest givers during that opening sequence: Lance, Jackson, Tracy, and Bruce. Their scripted interactions introduce the player to controls, the GATEPal interface, and immediate objectives before the player is released to broader areas such as Manufacturing West and the mines.
Practical notes for players revisiting the Induction Wing:
- A portal in the mines of Manufacturing West provides one-way access back to the upper floor used during the tutorial; this is the reliable way to reach the otherwise restricted areas later in the game.
- Inspect the wrecked Plague Dummy to learn the Plague Dummy recipe; this inspection is the only in-world method provided for obtaining that crafting information in the Induction Wing.
- The Dog Photo Frame is a fixed collectible in the revisit area; it remains in place after the tutorial ends.
- Ordo Storage is not enterable through standard routes and should be treated as a setpiece indicating prior looting by The Order rather than a current source of loot.
- The four tutorial NPCs (Lance, Jackson, Tracy, Bruce) do not wander into the wider world during the early game; their relevance is concentrated in the Induction Wing tutorial interactions.
The Induction Wing therefore serves both as a narrative gateway and a compact, replayable location that provides one key recipe, one collectible, and orientation to several recurring game systems and factions.
