Overview

Royal Range is the eighth of fifteen playable "worlds" within the in-game title Space Queen, appearing in the level commonly titled "Rumble on the Royal Range." The environment is theorized to be a simulation executed on high-capacity processing hardware inside IS-0083. Positioned between Painted Planet and Mighty Moon in the game's progression, Royal Range is a mid-difficulty, snow-themed area that requires players to collect a number of Royal Crowns to open new paths and complete the level.

IS-0083 incorporates each player's complete current awareness (CCA) into the simulation, so there is no single prescribed solution: variations in a player's equipment and awareness can change how the environment behaves. After IS-0307 is believed to have infected the system, "Rumble on the Royal Range" became the only level accessible to players; upon meeting the level's requirements, players are ejected from the simulation and cannot proceed further in the game. Before the infection, reports indicated players could reach prior and subsequent levels up to the final boss, but post-completion they are immediately returned to the starting screen. Regular enemies in Royal Range show heightened aggression attributed to the IS-0307 infection; the full extent of these effects is still under study.

Royal Range is accessed from within Cascade Laboratories: IS-0083 is housed at Containment Block Helmholtz, and players enter Royal Range by interacting with the arcade cabinet in the cell labeled IS-0083.

Gameplay in Royal Range emphasizes platforming, cold-environment preparation, and collection objectives. Practical notes and mechanics observed across sources include:

  • Cold resistance is recommended; unlike some other snow stages, +2 cold resistance is sufficient to fully negate the temperature effects encountered here. Enemies also drop floating Royal Peppers that grant temporary additional cold resistance.
  • Standard combat does not permanently eliminate many Portal World enemies; they must be defeated by stomping (jumping on them) similar to classic platformer mechanics. Double jump functionality is available in the Portal World.
  • Environmental hazards include teal, cracked ice pits that injure and catapult the player upward; these pits can also be fished from. Floating platforms with visible surface cracks will break shortly after being stepped on and respawn after a delay.
  • Rolling snowballs increase in size as they travel; contact with a snowball deals damage and launches the player at high speed, creating traversal as well as hazard opportunities.
  • Equipping traversal items dramatically affects access: the Dangling Gravity Cube makes many jump-based obstacles easier; to reach the distant small island, players need either the Dangling Gravity Cube or the Gravity Dampener in combination with a Jetpack. A strategically placed trampoline with a crown above it provides a useful route to that island.
  • Level completion requires finding 7 of the 8 Royal Crowns; this task must be completed only once to unlock exit conditions. There is an additional optional secret requiring the collection of 25 Royal Coins (also only needs to be completed once).
  • Frigid Queenfish obtained from fishing have a 10% chance to yield a Royal Coin when butchered, but those specific coins do not count toward the 25-coin total required for the secret.

Notable items and collectibles reported within the level include Royal Crowns, Royal Coins (25 for the secret), and floating Royal Peppers; some platforming rewards are obtained via interactions such as jumping on Lamogi enemies. The level contains visual oddities such as uniquely textured power sockets and a hidden small island that conceals secrets.

Royal Range is widely recognized as a deliberate homage to early 3D-era platformers; its snowbound design, collectible coins and crowns, stompable Goomba-like enemies, and isolated penguin-esque inhabitants draw a clear parallel to Super Mario 64's "Cool, Cool Mountain." The level's presentation leans into that aesthetic while integrating the IS-0083/IS-0307 narrative that alters access and enemy behavior.
