Tarasque

The home anteverse of IS-0121 - the Tarasque - was the 42nd to be discovered by GATE researchers, but only the 20th to be explored by TransRecon teams.
Dr. Riggs' original report likened the vast, desolate realm to a 'ragged, dry ocean floor', composed of 'endless caverns, crevices, caves and collapsed spaces' presided over by 'mobile organisms of unimaginable size'.
It was not until the second expedition that field researchers concluded that most of the supposedly geological features were, in fact, the bodily remains of titanic creatures, their immense corpses overlaid across eons.
During this second foray, the primary TR team encountered the first recorded instance of IS-0121 on the deflated remains of a recently deceased, semi-dirigible herbivore. The Tarasque is believed to be a minor skin parasite of this creature.
Following the encounter, the Executive Committee determined that the immensity of Anteverse XLII's lifeforms represented unacceptable risks, and recommended dispatching Gatekeeper teams for retrieving any further research subjects or data in the future.
DESIGNATION: Crucis (AG)
CONTAINMENT PROTOCOL: Containment facilities for IS-0121, like all non-aquatic specimens originating from Anteverse 42, require extensive material hardening.
For design and construction specifications, refer to GATE Megaspecimen and Holocaust Protection Manual (1.6.4.7). Only one IS-0121 specimen is to be contained per site and no gaseous exchange of more than 5ppm permitted between any two sites. Structural mass dampeners are suggested but not, at this stage, an essential requirement.
The Tarasque's circulatory fluid has exceptional capacitation properties. This 'ichor' is currently being investigated by Dr. Theodore Laciter for its ability to store and rapidly discharge very high quantities of energy, particularly as it relates to the power demands of instigating perforation events.
Due to an immense disjunction in scale, the Tarasque - like IS-0023 - is a near-microscopic entity in its home of Anteverse 42, but a giant in A0, and continuing to grow. The full extent of its growth is not yet known.
A variant - IS-0121-B or the Behemoth - was observed, and later recovered, from Anteverse XLII by the Requited. While distinct in patterning, the entity likewise shows no signs of slowing its growth.
Overview
The Tarasque (IS-0121) is a Crucis-class megaspecimen originating from Anteverse 42. In its native anteverse it exists at near-microscopic scale, but in A0 it appears as a gigantic, continuously growing organism; the ultimate limits of its growth are unknown. Researchers recover Tarasque specimens under strict containment protocols due to their size, resilience, and the unusual properties of their circulatory fluid ("ichor"), which is under study for its ability to rapidly store and discharge very large amounts of energy. A variant designated IS-0121-B, also called the
Field reports describe the home Anteverse as a ruined, dry ocean floor of endless caverns and collapsed spaces dominated by mobile organisms of unimaginable size; many apparent geological formations are actually the overlain corpses of titanic creatures. The first recorded encounter with IS-0121 occurred when a TransRecon team discovered a specimen on the deflated remains of a recently deceased semi-dirigible herbivore. Tarasque is believed to be a minor skin parasite of such megafauna. Containment for non-aquatic specimens from Anteverse 42 requires extensive material hardening; only one IS-0121 is to be contained per site and gaseous exchange between sites must not exceed 5 ppm. Design and construction specifications are given in the GATE Megaspecimen and Holocaust Protection Manual (1.6.4.7). Structural mass dampeners are recommended but not mandatory at present.
In encounter and combat, Tarasque is a heavily armored, resilient opponent that requires substantial firepower. Most of its body is protected; three primary vulnerable areas exist: the head, the tentacles on its chest, and the back flaps that expose when the creature kneels. The kneeling animation is triggered after chest tentacles take sufficient damage, exposing the back flaps for further attacks. Tarasque hits with heavy, staggering attacks that can knock players backward; high Fortitude or heavy armor is necessary to withstand its strikes. The creature is vulnerable to electrical and fire damage. Tarasque will aggro when players approach its lower pen and it will reappear seven in-game days after being defeated; leaving and reloading the area resets its health. The Tarasque commonly appears in Reactor locations.
- Containment: strengthen materials per the GATE megaspecimen manual; one specimen per site; keep inter-site gas exchange under 5 ppm.
- Research note: its circulatory ichor exhibits exceptional capacitation and is actively studied for high-rate energy storage and discharge.
- Combat strategy: target the head, chest tentacles, and the back flaps once Tarasque kneels; bring heavy weapons and sustained firepower; use electrical or fire-based weaponry for increased damage.
- Utility of decoys: Tarasque prioritizes certain distractions; a tamed
Plague or an Electro-Plague will draw its attacks first, though a tamed Plague may cease attacking once Tarasque kneels.
- Respawn mechanics: defeated Tarasque respawns after 7 in-game days; unloading and returning to the area resets its health immediately.
- Drops: defeating Tarasque yields Tarasque Ichor and Tarasque Skull at guaranteed rates.
Design influences include tardigrade-like features: bulky armored body, abdominal protrusions, microscopic origin in its home anteverse, and extreme resilience. The in-game name references the French mythological Tarasque. Images and media document Gatekeepers escorting captured specimens and show the Tarasque from containment approaches.
