Overview

Plague is a small, omnivorous hostile creature found in Anteverse II. It is an aggressive monopod that attacks prey with a highly extensible tongue, and it shows a degree of morphic continuity with other Anteverse 2 creatures. In GATE’s compendium, it is noted for surprising intelligence and resourcefulness, including the ability to solve simple puzzles and operate a claw-machine game to obtain food.

Plagues move by slowly hopping around a designated area, and some remain stationary until disturbed. Their attack is a leap strike with an effective range of about 3–4 storage-crate distances. The attack deals damage and can inflict bleeding. Individually they are not very dangerous, but groups of three or more can overwhelm unprepared players. In Apocalyptic mode, their leap attack becomes almost instantaneous after the windup, making dodging much more precise and considerably increasing their threat.

A few reliable ways to deal with them are:

  • Dodge by sidestepping just before the creature reels itself in.
  • Crouch at the start of the attack animation for a precise avoid.
  • Melee is most effective after a successful dodge or crouch; blunt weapons do more damage.
  • Ranged weapons kill them very quickly because they have low health.
  • A successful stun allows for a stomp kill.
  • Shields can block their attacks.
  • An unarmed shove while the Plague launches itself can knock it backward without taking damage.

Plagues can be harvested for Raw Pest and Raw Pest Rump, both listed with a 75% chance. They can also be trapped and tamed using a Pest Trap or Pheromone Flask and fed 3 Nachos or Anteverse Wheat. Once tamed, they become friendly companions that can be ordered to follow the player or patrol randomly, and they will attack hostile targets. Tamed Plagues can also be sent back to their cage or assigned to generate power in a Pest Wheel. The compendium also notes that after eating sugary snacks, they can gain a significant jump boost for nearly two days.
