A scarecrow that scares off Pests in an area, preventing them from appearing when powered. This will not prevent assaults or portal storms.
Overview
The Pest Scarecrow is a placeable item that prevents Pests from appearing within its coverage area while it is powered. When energized it continuously repels Pests in the surrounding zone so that they do not spawn or wander into that area. The effect applies only to natural Pest spawns and does not interfere with organized enemy events: it does not stop raids, assaults, or portal storm spawns.
Pest Scarecrows integrate with the game's power system and must be connected to a power source to function. Once powered they act as a passive anti-spawn field for Pests, making them useful for protecting localized locations such as lawns, fields, outdoor work areas, or perimeter corridors where recurring Pest appearances would otherwise disrupt activities. The device does not engage enemies directly; it simply prevents Pests from appearing in the area while active.
- Place Pest Scarecrows to cover recurring spawn points or chokepoints where Pests most often appear; a powered scarecrow removes Pests from its radius rather than killing or incapacitating existing hostile attackers.
- Ensure continuous power to maintain the no-spawn effect; loss of power allows Pests to resume appearing in the area.
- Do not rely on Pest Scarecrows for base defense against organized attacks: they provide no protection against assaults, raids, or portal storm events and cannot stop enemies that arrive via those mechanics.
- Use Pest Scarecrows to reduce maintenance or cleanup work caused by Pests in non-combat areas (gardens, resource gathering zones, around livestock) but combine them with conventional defenses for combat situations.
- Multiple scarecrows can be used to cover larger or irregularly shaped areas; overlap may be necessary to prevent gaps where Pests could spawn if one scarecrow’s influence does not reach.
The Pest Scarecrow is a defensive utility item focused on spawn prevention rather than direct combat. Its value comes from minimizing Pest nuisance in powered, local zones while leaving large-scale threat management to other defensive systems.
