Overview

The Giant Power Leech is a hostile creature tied to a recurring power-disruption event. It patrols a defined area and periodically emits bursts of electrical energy that deal light damage to any characters nearby. The appearance of a Giant Power Leech is announced by a facility message at the start of the event, and its presence causes smaller Power Leeches to spawn and cling to power sockets and batteries throughout the affected area. These smaller leeches both sustain the event and are a prerequisite for revealing the larger creature.

Players cannot directly reveal the Giant Power Leech at the outset; a number of the smaller Power Leeches must be killed first. The Crystalline Vial does not function on this creature family and cannot be used to bypass the usual reveal mechanics. Once enough small leeches have been removed, the Giant Power Leech becomes vulnerable and can be damaged—players must shoot the revealed giant repeatedly until it disappears to prematurely terminate the event. Killing the giant stops its lightning bursts and prevents further small leech spawns for that occurrence.

The Giant Power Leech drops electronic and crystalline materials, with available loot expanding as the world progresses through certain milestones. Loot tables change depending on unlocked world flags:

Tactical notes and interactions:

  • The event location is signalled by a facility announcement; respond quickly to cut down the small leeches and reveal the giant before its bursts cause sustained equipment or player damage.
  • Focus fire on clusters of small Power Leeches attached to power infrastructure to accelerate the reveal. Targeting batteries and sockets where they attach is efficient.
  • Once the Giant Power Leech is exposed, concentrated ranged damage is the primary way to end the event; area-denial or crowd-control methods that do not remove the small leeches are ineffective.
  • Because the Crystalline Vial has no effect on these creatures, do not rely on that tool to neutralize the event.

Additional notes:

  • The Giant Power Leech is noted in the compendium to possibly share a parasite with IS-0139.
  • The compendium lists the creature’s origin as Anteverse 23, described as having a crystalline tendency among fauna, but this is likely a compendium error; some related entries indicate Anteverse 17 as the intended origin.
