Hive Larva

Overview
Hive Larva is a larval creature associated with the Hive and encountered in the older, defunct mining region of the GATE Cascade Research Facility after the facility’s perforation network destabilized. It is one of a range of related organisms designated A299-A, B, C, and D, which are presumed to originate from Anteverse 299, where similar entities were observed during the first and only TransRecon expedition to that location.
The GATE Compendium describes these organisms as a hive entity that appears to communicate largely through scent and other olfactory cues. They are also believed to help form the structure of the hive itself at some stage of their life cycle. Their true intelligence remains undetermined, and the entry makes clear that further research is needed.
In combat, Hive Larva is a soft target and will die within a few swings, though it is tougher than the standard variant. Even so, it remains a low-durability enemy that can be handled quickly with basic melee weapons if the player commits to close-range attacks. Its main danger comes less from durability and more from being part of a hive environment, where multiple larvae may be present together.
Hive Larva can drop:
- Raw Larva Meat — 50%
Larva Figurine — 2%
The meat makes it a functional resource target as well as a combat encounter, while the figurine is a rare drop. Because the creature is fragile, it is generally worth defeating when encountered, especially if raw material or collection completion is the goal.
