Hive Larva are a range of related larval organisms cataloged as A299 A–D and are presumed to originate from Anteverse 299. Specimens were first associated with observations made during the TransRecon expedition to that location. After the destabilization of the GATE Cascade Research Facility's perforation network, multiple individuals and portions of their hive intersected with the Facility's older, defunct mining region—an area of formerly solid rock dotted with horizontal mineshafts—leading to their presence within Facility bounds.
Hive Larva operate as components of a larger hive organism. They communicate primarily through scent and other olfactory cues and are believed, at some stage of their life cycle, to contribute physically to the construction or maintenance of the hive structure itself. Their overall cognitive capacities have not been determined and require further study; current records describe them in behavioral and ecological terms rather than as clearly individual intelligences.
In encounters, Hive Larva present as soft-bodied creatures that are vulnerable to melee attacks; a single Larva will typically be killed within a few swings of standard close-quarters weapons. Certain documented variants (noted as tougher than the standard classification) may withstand more damage, but even these remain comparatively fragile relative to larger hive forms or adult organisms. Because the Larva are components of a hive system, engagement with multiple individuals commonly occurs in the context of a nearby hive or nesting area.
Harvesting and loot from defeated Hive Larva are limited but consistent. Known drops include Raw Larva Meat, which appears with roughly a 50% chance when a Larva is harvested, and a rare Larva Figurine with a reported chance near 2%. These items are the primary material yields tied to Larva encounters; no technologies, modules, or unique tools are recorded as required for harvesting beyond standard field collection.
Combat notes: Hive Larva are soft and vulnerable to quick melee strikes; concentrate on single-target swings to conserve stamina. Expect slightly tougher variants in some facility sectors.
Ecology notes: Larva are olfactory communicators and may attract or coordinate nearby hive components when disturbed; avoid disturbing nests if stealth or low-conflict outcomes are desired.
Loot: Raw Larva Meat (50% chance), Larva Figurine (2% chance). No further guaranteed drops are recorded.
Research priority: The life-stage at which Larva contribute to hive structure and the extent of any centralized hive intelligence remain open questions and are recommended for targeted study.
