Official description

A utilitarian sun protector.

Overview

The Bucket Hat is a simple wearable item described in-game as a utilitarian sun protector. Across localizations it is consistently presented as a practical piece of headwear intended to shield the wearer from sunlight; entries in English, German, Spanish, French, Japanese, Portuguese (pt-BR), Russian, and Chinese all characterize it as a straightforward, functional sun hat rather than an ornate or heavily armoured piece.

In addition to its basic descriptive role, the Bucket Hat is documented in the English wiki as an item that functions more than a cosmetic: it acts as an active tool for interacting with the environment. It is presented as the upgrade of a Vacuum-type device and its primary uses are harvesting and item collection. Items and small objects within range are drawn toward the wearer and automatically added to inventory if space exists. Unlike the Vacuum it upgrades from, the Bucket Hat is also capable of breaking down corpses as though they had been butchered by conventional cutting tools, though this method is less efficient than using dedicated high-quality cutting implements.

The Bucket Hat can pick up and launch several living and nonliving entities. It will collect and fire Plague, Electro-Pests, Volatile Pests, Snow Pests, and Hive Larva; when launched, Plague and Electro-Pests deal 30 Blunt damage on impact. Due to a known bug at the time of documentation, Volatile Pests launched in this way deal no damage. Entities launched by the device disintegrate on impact and do not produce loot drops. The device can also grab and fire small enemy creatures and incoming heavy projectiles — examples recorded include enemy eyes, grenades, and rocket projectiles — allowing the wearer to intercept and repurpose hostile ordnance even while it is airborne.

Practical notes and tactical considerations:

  • The Bucket Hat doubles as a collection tool and an improvised ranged launcher; use it to clear resource nodes and gather stray items without manually moving to each pickup.
  • Because launched Plague and Electro-Pests deal a fixed blunt damage, the Bucket Hat can be used offensively at short range for crowd control, but do not rely on launched Volatile Pests for damage until the bug is fixed.
  • Items and corpses broken down by the Bucket Hat follow the same loot and processing rules as normal but may be less efficient compared to using specialized cutting tools; plan resource-processing workflows accordingly.
  • The ability to catch and fire enemy projectiles is situationally valuable: it can neutralize incoming explosives or turn enemy fire back against foes, but timing and range matter for consistent results.
  • Launched creatures and Pests disappear on impact and yield no drops, so use the launcher primarily for utility and combat rather than as a source of materials.

The Bucket Hat therefore occupies a hybrid role: a modest piece of sun protection that also grants surprising environmental interaction and defensive/offensive utility when used as the upgrade to a Vacuum-type collector.
