Trooper

Overview

Troopers behave as mixed-range combatants. They will periodically attempt to put distance between themselves and the player, making them susceptible to sustained fire from ranged weapons. Their melee attacks are present but not their primary tactic; they will fire from range and retreat to maintain spacing. Troopers can be observed in both static guard posts and moving patrols, often alongside other soldier types.
Combat considerations:
- Ranged weapons are recommended because Troopers frequently try to move away from the player, creating opportunities to exploit their retreat behavior and hit them from a distance.
- Shields are effective for defense against
Trooper attacks. A shield can block both their ranged shots and their melee strikes, allowing the player to close or create openings for counterattacks.
- Expect engagements to involve both single-target aimed fire and short bursts while they reposition; suppressing or flanking them reduces their ability to kite.
Loot and harvestable remains:
- Troopers always drop a Patois Rifle on defeat (100% chance).
- They drop 5.56 Ammo reliably: 100% chance for 2 rounds, and an additional 50% chance to drop between 2–5 rounds.
- Kevlar Scrap is a guaranteed drop (100%).
- Military Electronics have a 60% drop chance.
- Cracked Shoulder Light drops 50% of the time.
- Military M.R.E. are rare drops at 2%.
- Cloth Scrap is a very rare drop at 1%.
- Harvesting their remains yields a Human Skull (100%) and has a 50% chance to yield a Human Arm (Military).
Additional notes:
- Troopers do not have a dedicated Compendium entry; they are treated functionally under the broader Triarii (Grunts) category for documentation and classification purposes.
- Visually, Troopers display shotgun shells attached to their shoulder pads, but they do not use a shotgun in combat; their issued weaponry and drops reflect rifle-based armament.
