Patois Rifle

The Patois Rifle is a ranged weapon that fires a 3-round burst instead of fully automatic fire. It has fairly strong recoil over the burst, making its shots less controllable than slower, single-shot firearms. The weapon is notable for its unusual name and for being tied to later-game Accuracy progression and special armwraps.

To use the Patois Rifle, the player character must have either the Bio-Mimic Armwraps buff or the Bio-Fusion Armwraps buff active. Even if the armwraps themselves are obtained early through multiplayer crafting, the rifle still cannot be fired without Accuracy 7. If the player tries to shoot before meeting that requirement, the game displays a message saying they are not confident enough to use the item, and no shot is fired.

The armwraps requirement creates a small progression gate around the rifle: the armwrap recipe is unlocked at Accuracy 15, which can let one player create the item for others in multiplayer, but the weapon’s own Accuracy requirement still applies. In practical use, the burst-fire pattern means the Patois Rifle rewards short, controlled engagements more than sustained spraying, especially because of its noticeable recoil.

The rifle’s appearance is based on the French FAMAS F1 assault rifle. Its name also echoes the word patois, which refers to a regional nonstandard dialect.
