Official description

A helmet worn by alps-ascending assailants.

Overview

Mountaineer Helmet is a wearable headgear item associated with the alpine-style assailants encountered in the game. It is described in multiple languages as the helmet worn by attackers who climb the Alps, and appears as loot dropped or dislodged from those enemies rather than as part of a craftable or purchasable armor piece. Despite visual similarity to the rest of the Mountaineer Armor Set, Mountaineer Helmet is not counted as a set piece for set bonuses.

The helmet can be obtained by striking a Mountaineer’s head with a Blunt melee weapon or by hitting the head with a Bullet ranged weapon; there is a chance to obtain it from such hits. Helmets can also be knocked off a Mountaineer even after the enemy is dead, making head-focused attacks a reliable way to recover the item from corpses and downed foes. The Portuguese description uses the term Hard Hat to refer to the same equipment class; this corresponds to the helmet category rather than indicating a different item.

Practical notes and interactions:

  • The most consistent way to acquire a Mountaineer Helmet is to target the head with blunt weapons or bullets. Prioritize headshots or use blunt strikes on live Mountaineers to trigger the knock-off chance.
  • Loot can be recovered from dead Mountaineers by attacking the head area; the helmet does not require the enemy to be alive to be dislodged.
  • Visually it matches the alpine raider aesthetic and may appear to belong with other Mountaineer armor pieces, but it does not register as part of the Mountaineer Armor Set for any set-based mechanics.
  • Because the helmet is primarily obtained from enemies rather than through crafting, group encounters with multiple Mountaineers increase raw acquisition opportunities.
  • Treat Mountaineer Helmet as a single, standalone helmet item when inventory-managing; do not expect set bonuses or set-based equip requirements to recognize it.

Description summary from in-game localization: a helmet worn by alps-ascending assailants. The item’s primary interactions are tied to enemy head hits and drop mechanics rather than crafting or vendor acquisition.
