Garage Rat

Overview
Garage Rat is a hostile creature commonly encountered in vehicle maintenance areas and garages. It is typically observed patrolling around vehicles or performing maintenance tasks rather than skulking in refuse piles. Unlike many related rodents, a Garage Rat does not flee when threatened and will instead stand its ground, making it a predictable but aggressive presence in its preferred locations.
In combat a Garage Rat attacks with a Pipe Wrench, using sweeping melee strikes to harry intruders. Its attack pattern is straightforward: close to medium-range swipes that can interrupt actions and deal consistent blunt damage. Because it does not attempt to run away, Garage Rats can be isolated and fought one-on-one without worrying about drawn-out chases.
Garage Rats consistently drop a Pipe Wrench and Oil on defeat. They also have chances to yield additional salvage useful for crafting or progression. Certain parts can be harvested from defeated specimens, including human remains and rare wearable gear, making them a source of both mechanical and biological loot.
- Common combat behavior: patrols vehicles/maintenance areas; does not flee from danger; attacks with Pipe Wrench using swiping melee.
- Guaranteed drops: Pipe Wrench (100%), Oil (100%).
- Additional drops:
Tactical Scrap (50%),
Reinforced CPU (50%),
Ornate Key (3%).
- Harvestable parts:
Human Skull (100%),
Human Arm (Military) (50%), Rat Suit (7.5%).
Tactics for engaging Garage Rats center on exploiting their lack of retreat. Ranged characters can kite briefly to avoid the Pipe Wrench sweep, then finish at distance; melee fighters should time blocks or interrupts to avoid losing momentum to their swipes. Because each Garage Rat reliably yields mechanical components, they are efficient targets when farming for crafting materials like Tactical Scrap or Reinforced CPU. The Ornate Key is a rare but valuable drop; repeated clears of garage areas increase the chances of obtaining one.
Garage Rats are valuable both for predictable mechanical loot and for the occasional wearable or anatomical harvest. Approach garage zones with standard anti-melee precautions, and prioritize single-target removal to prevent being surrounded by multiple patrolling individuals.
