Overview

Torii is a secluded GATE facility and portal world dedicated to advanced power research and supernormal studies. It functions as an institute focused on energy science — covering generation, propagation, storage, transmission, and fuel extraction — and hosts a specialist study unit on Supernormal Historical Events. The location is presented as being in Southern Japan and deliberately placed on the Ring of Fire, reflecting an emphasis on volcanology and geothermal research. The environment features multiple Japanese torii gates and is one of the Portal Worlds that runs a full day/night cycle; at night (21:00) several stone lanterns around the site illuminate.

Torii contains no regular hostile spawns: the Leyak does not appear. Assault events can still occur on the site, but these encounters can be largely mitigated by deploying a crafting bench with its portal suppression field, making Torii a mostly peaceful place to build, experiment, and loiter. The area supports player-owned pets via teleportation: pets can be brought in using the Plague Teleporter. Traveling traders are able to arrive in Torii, enabling access to outside goods while based in the facility.

A small environmental puzzle exists within Torii; the site contains at least one secret interaction that yields a result when solved. This puzzle is brief and tied to the site’s architecture and lighting, and players exploring the site can uncover it through observation and manipulation of the environment.

Practical notes and interactions:

  • Construction and experimentation: Torii’s lack of natural hostile spawns and its portal-suppression-compatible crafting bench make it well suited for base-building and energy-related crafting projects.
  • Mitigation of assaults: If an assault event triggers, placing a crafting bench with an active portal suppression field will reduce or prevent hostile incursions tied to the portal mechanics.
  • Pets and trade: Use the Plague Teleporter to bring pets into Torii; traveling traders may appear, so plan for trade opportunities while based there.
  • Multiplayer access: On multiplayer servers, only the server host must own the DLC that contains Torii in order for all players on the server to access the location.
  • Atmosphere and timing: Torii cycles through day and night; visiting after 21:00 will reveal lit stone lanterns and a distinct nocturnal ambiance that can affect visibility and the aesthetic of experiments or roleplay.

Torii is thus a research-oriented, relatively safe portal world that combines thematic Japanese architecture with functional benefits for players focused on energy systems, crafting, and controlled experimentation.
