Early Game Guide: Oxygen, Suits & Priorities

The early game in ASTRONEER is about surviving long enough to establish a stable foothold on a planet. Your first priorities are oxygen, basic mobility, and recognizing the default suit options you start with.

Starting suits

When a player begins the game, several default suits are unlocked immediately. These suits were added during the Early Access period.

  • Exotraje: A slim suit with long arms and legs. It was the first suit added to the game and is the suit used in the tutorial section.
  • Traje Burbuja: Also known as Burbujas, this is a stockier suit with a large round visor.
  • Traje de Vuelo: Also known as Pijama, this is a standard astronaut-style flight suit.
  • Biotraje: Like the Exotraje, this suit is slim, but with a longer body and more normally proportioned arms and legs.

Oxygen in the early game

Oxygen is the most critical early resource in ASTRONEER. Players need oxygen to live, and if it runs out, they will eventually die.

The early game provides two ways to reduce the risk of running out of oxygen:

These give you a way to keep exploring away from your starting area without immediately suffocating. For longer-term base play, the more permanent oxygenator can distribute oxygen throughout an entire base.
