Desolo

Desolo is a small barren planet with no atmosphere, exposed rocky terrain, and many separated impact craters across its surface. Its lack of an atmosphere means it has no gases, but it does receive strong sunlight and only weak wind, making solar power much more reliable than wind power. The planet is often treated as an early expedition stop because of its proximity to Sylva and because its main resource is Wolframite.

The surface is broken into several region types, and the planet’s size makes it quick to circle on foot or by vehicle. Its day-night cycle is also very short, lasting about one minute per cycle. Desolo’s craters often contain plant life despite the absence of an atmosphere, and the planet is a good early source of Organic. It also contains many research objects and debris on the surface, which makes it useful for early-game progression.

Desolo has two Gateway Chambers, and each one requires 8U/s of power for 30 seconds to activate. Four Small Generators or one Medium Generator on a Medium Platform A are enough to power a chamber. At least one chamber must be activated before the Gateway Engine in the core can be accessed. Once a Gateway Chamber is active, the Gateway Engine opens in the core; placing a single Zinc in one of the slots reveals the Geometric Triptych, and placing the Geometric Triptych in the opposite slot activates the engine. This reveals the Odd Stone, enables teleportation to the core, and reveals the inactive Gateway Portal node if it has not already been discovered.

• The Apollo Lunar Lander spawns on the surface and can be used to take a photograph with its camera.
• Its small size and short day-night cycle make travel and exploration relatively fast.
• Because of its early access to Wolframite and Organic, it is often visited soon after leaving Sylva.
