Overview

Drill Strength 2 is a vehicle-mounted drilling attachment used to excavate soil quickly and efficiently. It is fitted to the front of a Rover, where it can be powered on and used to tunnel through terrain far faster than the Terrain Tool alone. Like the other Drill Strength tiers, it is designed for rapid excavation and for creating tunnels large enough to match the vehicle it is attached to.

When placed on a Rover, the drill can be toggled with the context keys, with the exact key depending on the platform. On a Tractor, either context key turns the drill on or off, since the Tractor has only one front attachment slot. On a Large Rover, placing two drills on one side, or a drill and a Paver, causes both attached modules on that side to activate together. The camera angle also affects excavation: tilting the view changes the pitch of the Tractor and drill, which makes it possible to dig tunnels upward or downward.

The size of the tunnel produced by Drill Strength 2 depends on the vehicle it is mounted to, so the same drill can create different hole sizes depending on the rover chassis. This makes it useful for carving routes that fit a particular transport setup, whether the goal is a narrow passage or a wider industrial tunnel.

Attaching Drill Strength 2 to a Crane allows the player to sit in the Crane and dig large holes with ease, making it a strong option for controlled excavation when building downward or clearing out a large area. Because the drill works so quickly, it should be turned off when falling into an open cavern; otherwise it can keep digging and cut much deeper into the ground than intended.

  • Best used for rapid tunneling through soil on a Rover.
  • Can be toggled with context controls while mounted.
  • On a Large Rover, paired drills or a drill plus Paver on one side activate together.
  • Camera tilt can be used to guide the drill upward or downward.
  • Crane mounting is effective for digging large open spaces.
  • Disable it when dropping into caverns to avoid accidental over-digging.
