Overview
The Paver is a terrain-modifying tool that creates a gray soil path beneath the explorer instead of digging material away. It functions as the opposite of a Drill in practical use: where a Drill removes terrain, the Paver lays down a traversable ramp or road, making it easier to travel across rough ground without manually filling holes or managing steep drops.
It is especially useful when paired with a Drill, since the two tools can be used together to carve and shape routes at the same time. This lets players move through terrain while automatically improving the path, which is convenient for long tunnels, quarrying routes, and steep slopes where repeated terrain shaping would otherwise be tedious. The Paver can be toggled on and off with the context keys, or the left controller stick by default, depending on which side of the explorer it is attached to.
A Medium Soil/Fuel Canister is a very useful companion to the Paver, because the tool consumes soil quickly and can empty a small container in a short time. If the canister runs dry, the Paver stops being able to build the path until more material is supplied. For extended construction, keeping a steady supply of soil is important.
