Overview

The Large Rover is a vehicle used for long-distance transport, hauling, and mobile industrial setups. It works much like the Medium Rover, but it has more mounting space, stronger towing capacity, and a larger internal power reserve, making it better suited for carrying equipment, resources, and multiple modules across rough terrain.

A Large Rover comes with a tier-4 attachment slot on top that can hold one extra large object, such as an Extra Large Shredder. Its front and back each provide a tier-3 attachment point, which can be used to carry items or connect to other rovers. A Large Storage can also be mounted on the rear. The rover seat is required to drive it, and the Large Rover Seat allows more passengers in multiplayer; the first player to enter the seat becomes the driver. Even if the top slots are full, the rover can still be driven with a seat attached to the front or back.

The Large Rover is especially useful as a mobile base or cargo train. It supplies unlimited air, so it can function as a temporary camp while exploring, and it can also be used as general storage. With storage built out efficiently, it can carry very large numbers of small items; a fully optimized setup can hold 104 small items, and larger train-style configurations can increase this capacity dramatically. It can also be used as a mobile energy buffer when loaded with Medium Batteries or power-generating modules.

  • Power usage is continuous: the Large Rover consumes 1 Unit per second, and its effective internal power storage lasts 16 seconds without an attached power source.
  • Power can be supplied from a base through a network cable, from modules such as generators, solar panels, and wind turbines, or from Power Cells.
  • Attaching an RTG makes it generate power at 400% of the rate it consumes, allowing continuous driving and drilling without waiting for recharge.
  • Attaching a QT-RTG provides exactly enough power to drive indefinitely and will slowly recharge attached batteries when parked.
  • A Medium Fluid & Soil Canister can be used on the rover while drilling to collect soil.
  • Including quartz in your toolkit is useful in case the rover is full, since it lets you quickly craft a Beacon to mark dropped resources for later recovery.

The Large Rover also supports towing and train-like movement. Like Medium Rovers, several Large Rovers can be tethered together to form trains, but train size is limited by total vehicle count and load. The heavier the train, the slower it moves, until it can no longer climb small slopes or move at all. A Large Rover can pull three loaded Large Rovers or three loaded Medium Rovers.

It also supports several equipment types for travel and excavation. Drill Heads can be attached to the front or back to dig tunnels while moving, and a Paver can be mounted the same way to lay a dark gray soil road. A Winch lets the rover tow other vehicles and large objects from farther away, while a Crane can be used with a Drill Head for bulk resource collection.

The Large Rover is often favored for mining and logistics because it combines transport, storage, and utility in one platform. With the right attachments, it can serve as a drilling vehicle, hauling rig, portable storage platform, or long-range exploration base.
