Stuffed Storage

Storages are utility items and modules used to hold other objects, resources, or gases in Astroneer. They exist in several sizes and are used to organize cargo, extend carrying capacity, and keep a vehicle or platform stocked with supplies. Some storages hold only small items, while others support medium items or special resource containers.

The basic Storage holds up to 8 small items, similar to the Backpack. Medium Storage expands that capacity for smaller items, while also serving as a simple cargo solution for platforms and vehicles. Large Storage can hold up to 4 medium items, or it can be combined with smaller storage units to carry more small items: up to 32 small items with Medium Storage and up to 96 small items with Medium Storage Silo. Extra Large Storage is the largest general-purpose storage and holds up to 31 small items, but it cannot hold medium or larger items.

There are also specialized storage types with their own limits and uses. Medium Storage Silo holds up to 24 small items and is crafted in the Small Printer. Large Storage A holds up to 8 tier-2 items, or 16 small items, or a mix of both. Large Storage B increases that to 12 tier-2 items or 24 small items, or a mix of both. Resource Canisters are special containers that store a single resource type and come in medium and large variants. The Canister is a special tool used to store Soil and works in a way similar to a tank; it is reusable, with Soil being stored or removed depending on how the Terrain Tool is used. The Small Oxygen Tank is a compact version of the oxygen tank built into the Backpack and can be attached to any Backpack slot, including Terrain Tool slots. Batteries are also part of the storage family in the broader sense, since they store Power and can be charged from excess energy in the network.

A few practical details are worth keeping in mind:

• Some modules do not work correctly when connected to storage, such as the Small Solar Panel.
• Large Storage can be mounted on a Large Rover, a Medium Rover, or a Large Shuttle.
• Storage is often most efficient when used to group compatible items by size, especially on vehicles and mobile bases.
