This machine is notable for being the only extra-large item in the game that requires a platform to operate. It must be placed on a compatible platform before it can function, so it cannot be used as a standalone ground-mounted structure. The Extra Large Shredder was first shown during a Twitch stream on February 15, 2019, and its inclusion was later confirmed for the April update. Its introduction placed it among the larger industrial additions to Astroneer, alongside other oversized base machinery.
