Organic

Overview
Organic is a common natural resource found on every planet. It is gathered with the Terrain Tool from most kinds of flora, making it one of the earliest and most accessible materials in the game. Because it grows on plant life rather than appearing as a mineral deposit, it is usually collected directly from the environment instead of being mined from the ground.
The resource can also be obtained by processing certain plant sources: one source produces 8 Organic from two full passes with the Terrain Tool, and another yields 2 Organic per pass, up to 8 total from four passes. Some tappable flora also produces Organic continuously when a device is placed on it, providing a renewable source as long as the plant remains usable. Organic was previously found in a few other visual forms, including droplet-like and cuboid variants, but those appearances are no longer part of its standard presentation.
Organic is used in a small number of important early-game applications, most notably as fuel for the
A few practical notes make Organic easier to manage:
- Organic is one of the only natural resources, aside from
Soil, that cannot be collected with an
Auto Extractor.
- It is abundant enough that large patches of plant life can be gathered quickly with the Terrain Tool.
- Since it is a fuel resource, it is best saved for power generation rather than discarded in bulk.
- Renewable plant-based sources can provide a consistent supply if you want to avoid repeated harvesting runs.
Because it is both common and useful, Organic often serves as a low-tech bridge between exploration and self-sustaining power production. Its role is simple, but it remains one of the most important resources for early survival and for keeping small systems running without more advanced infrastructure.
