Wolframite

Wolframite is an unrefined resource used as a source of tungsten progression in Astroneer. It is found naturally on several planets, typically in cave layers, and also in mountainous biome and mantle layers. Like other surface resources, it is collected directly from deposits rather than crafted from smaller materials.

Wolframite deposits are also associated with some recovered or test regions in the game data, but in normal play the important locations are the cave layers and the mountainous and mantle layers. Once gathered, it can be processed into useful progression materials, and it serves as the resource used to craft items in the tungsten chain.

• In the real world, wolframite is the most commonly processed of the tungsten ores, followed by scheelite and ferberite.
• The in-game deposit model does not resemble real wolframite closely; a realistic deposit would look more like a black version of Quartz.

Wolframite is a nonrefined resource and is primarily important as a raw material for later crafting rather than for immediate base-building use.
