Overview

The Neoplasia Reactor is a late-game power generator that consumes Neoplasm to produce large amounts of power at the cost of generating hazardous Neoplasm puddles and heat. It is an advanced reactor unique to Erekir biomes and functions differently from conventional reactors: it cannot be overdriven and requires careful handling of its toxic byproducts. The block was added in Build 137 and had its construction costs and build time adjusted in Build 149 (phase fabric reduced from 300 to 150, tungsten from 1000 to 750; build time decreased from 52.16s to 42.66s).

Because the reactor outputs Neoplasm as waste, placement and disposal logistics are central to safe operation. Neoplasm cannot be processed by Molten Slag Incinerators, so the recommended method of removal is to discharge the waste onto slag tiles. Using Reinforced Bridge Conduits to transport Neoplasm puddles across gaps is an effective way to space puddles out and prevent accidental contamination of base structures. If spatial routing is constrained, ensure that any resulting puddles are kept as far away as possible from water-holding blocks and other vulnerable structures, since Neoplasm puddles will damage them.

The Neoplasia Reactor also produces substantial heat as a byproduct. This heat can be routed into a Flux Reactor to convert it into an additional 5760 power, increasing overall energy output when integrated into a heat-management setup. Like Thorium and Impact Reactors, the Neoplasia Reactor will attract Eclipses, making its colocated defenses and positioning important in hostile environments. If Neoplasm buildup causes the reactor to explode, the player unlocks the Steam achievement "Contamination", analogous to the Erekir equivalent of other reactor-disaster achievements.

Practical points for use and design:

  • Always plan disposal lines before building: route Neoplasm to isolated slag fields via conveyors or Reinforced Bridge Conduits to avoid local contamination.
  • Keep water tanks, cores, and other water-holding or delicate blocks well outside the radius of any potential Neoplasm puddles.
  • Integrate heat transfer to a Flux Reactor to reclaim the reactor's heat into usable power (+5760 power potential).
  • Do not rely on overdrive for increased output; the Neoplasia Reactor cannot be overdriven.
  • Anticipate Eclipses and provide turrets or defensive layouts if placed in exposed regions.
