Overview

The Detailer is a Well-Being building that lets you customize the appearance of individual beaver tails. It appears in-game as an interactable structure where a player (or the colony AI) assigns a tail pattern to a beaver so that its tail displays a chosen design while the beaver carries out normal activities. The building does not affect stats or behavior; its function is purely cosmetic and used to personalize a colony's population.

Detailers contain a detail window that shows available patterns and any custom images placed in the game's user folder. The game includes several default pattern sets (for example Folktails and IronTeeth), each with multiple variants. Any number of unique images can be used across a colony; each Detailer can select a different pattern for each beaver it decorates. The Detailer was introduced in Update 6.

Custom images are stored in Documents\Timberborn\Tails. Use the Detailer window’s Browse button to open that folder and add or remove files; use Refresh in the Detailer to update the list after changing files. Preferred custom files are transparent 1024×1024 PNGs, though JPGs and lower resolutions are accepted. A community-provided template exists for designing custom tails; many shared community patterns are collected on the Custom tail patterns page.

Practical notes and usage tips:

  • Fine detail on custom tails is visible only when the camera is zoomed in fully; designs may appear simplified at typical zoom levels.
  • Pure “tattoo-style” images (solid black on full transparency) may not stand out well. Adding a lightly opaque white or translucent background to the image will improve visibility and contrast on the tail.
  • The Detailer lists both default and custom images; select any listed image to set the pattern for a beaver. There is no hard in-game limit on how many distinct images you can use across the colony beyond file management.
  • Because the feature is cosmetic, players often use Detailers for storytelling, thematic colonies, or to mark special roles visually without impacting gameplay mechanics.
