Overview

The Detailer is a Well-Being building that lets you apply decorative patterns to beaver tails. It provides a detail window where you select a tail pattern for beavers; each Detailer can be set to a different pattern so different buildings or groups of beavers can display distinct designs. The building appears in the game as the in-game interface for customizing tails and was introduced in Update 6.

The Detailer lists a set of default patterns shipped with the game and also supports custom images placed by the player. Default pattern packs include Folktails and IronTeeth, each with four pattern files (Tail1–Tail4). The Detailer’s UI shows available images and highlights which image is currently selected. There is no built-in limit to how many unique images can be used across a colony, other than each Detailer using a single selected image at a time.

Custom images are loaded from the player’s Documents\Timberborn\Tails folder. The Detailer window includes a Browse button that opens that system folder and a Refresh button that updates the list to reflect any changes or newly added files. Players can move downloaded images into the Tails folder (for example, from a downloads folder) and then select Refresh in the Detailer to make them available.

Custom image format requirements and recommendations are:

  • Transparent 1024×1024 PNGs are preferred.
  • Timberborn also accepts JPGs and lower resolutions.
  • A template (provided by Stone Cold Jane Austen on the Timberborn Discord) is recommended for base designs to ensure correct alignment and scale.

Practical notes and community resources:

  • Fine detail in tail patterns is only visible when you zoom in all the way; zoom level affects how much detail is readable on moving beavers.
  • Tattoo-style images (pure black on pure transparency) do not contrast strongly; adding a somewhat transparent white background can improve visibility.
  • The community maintains a collection of custom tail patterns on the Custom_tail_patterns page, and the gallery shows examples of beavers with decorated tails at different zooms and postures.
  • Use the Detailer’s Browse to open Documents\Timberborn\Tails and use Refresh after adding or changing files so the building lists the new images.

The Detailer serves purely cosmetic, colony-customization purposes by changing tail appearances and is part of the game’s tools for personalizing beaver aesthetics.
