Gear Workshop

Overview
The
Gear Workshop is a production building that converts planks into gears, a required component for many mid- to late-game machines and constructions. It becomes available early in play and should be integrated into a developing industrial chain immediately after establishing basic lumber processing.
Gears are output items that must be stored and transported to other buildings; the
Gear Workshop holds a small internal buffer and feeds connected logistics via the town layout.
The building consumes planks as its input and produces one gear per production cycle. Production speed was increased in Update 2: the cycle time was reduced from 6 hours to 3 hours. Internal inventory was also expanded in Update 2 from 8 planks and 10 gears to 10 planks and 10 gears, allowing slightly larger batching and less frequent resupply. The
Gear Workshop was introduced during the Open Alpha.
Practical usage and placement:
- Build
Gear Workshops once you have steady plank production; a recommended sequence is to erect a
Gear Workshop immediately after your first
Lumber Mills to avoid interrupting gear-dependent construction. - Provide reliable plank delivery with log and plank roads or a nearby Medium Warehouse to feed the workshop’s increased internal plank capacity.
- Use a Medium Warehouse to store produced gears and to smooth supply to consuming buildings; the workshop’s internal storage is useful but limited.
- Clustering multiple
Gear Workshops increases gear throughput for heavy industrial hubs, but ensure sufficient plank supply and worker access. - Position workshops close to logistics routes to minimize travel time for carriers delivering planks and collecting gears.
