Overview

Lumber Mills are Timberborn buildings associated with the Wood category. They have multiple variants across updates and factions, including the original Lumber Mill, an Industrial Lumber Mill introduced in Update 4, and an obsolete Iron Teeth Lumber Mill variant referenced in development history. The Lumber Mill was present in the Open Alpha and later became faction-specific: as of Update 4 the standard Lumber Mill is available to the Folktails faction, and the Industrial Lumber Mill was added to the game’s set of production buildings.

Lumber Mills connect to Power from all sides except the doorway, and they also accept Power connections from underneath. This connection behavior applies to their power network integration and determines valid placement of power poles or conduits relative to the building.

The Iron Teeth Lumber Mill variant differs from the basic model in several concrete ways. Iron Teeth mills employ 2 workers instead of 1, consume 50% more power, and produce about double the output in the same time frame. The Iron Teeth variant is noted as obsolete in the game’s history, reflecting changes to factions and building availability over successive updates.

Practical notes and placement considerations:

  • Power connection: attach power lines to any side of the Lumber Mill except the doorway; underside connections are also valid. Plan pole placement accordingly to avoid blocking entrance/worker movement.
  • Worker capacity: Iron Teeth variant requires two workers, while the basic Lumber Mill requires one worker. This affects labor allocation and housing needs when using different variants.
  • Power budgeting: Iron Teeth mills consume 50% more power than the basic mill while delivering roughly double production, so balance energy production and storage against output goals.
  • Faction availability: the standard Lumber Mill was made Folktails-only in Update 4; the Industrial Lumber Mill was introduced at the same time. Confirm available variants when designing a settlement based on faction choice.
  • Version history: the Lumber Mill has existed since the Open Alpha and has undergone variant and faction changes through updates; older Iron Teeth variants are now considered obsolete.
