Overview

The Oil Press is a production building that processes Canola Seeds into Canola Oil. Canola Oil is an intermediate resource used primarily in several food and industrial recipes: it is consumed by Fermenters to make Fermented Soybean, by Food Factories to produce Eggplant Rations and Algae Rations, and by Grease Factories to produce Grease. The Oil Press is an essential mid‑ to late‑game facility when canola-derived products become central to large‑scale rations and Bot boosts.

The Oil Press accepts Canola Seeds as its input and outputs Canola Oil into the logistic network or an adjacent tank. It can accept and transmit power through every side block except the doorway, and it also accepts power from below. Proper orientation and power routing allow the Press to integrate cleanly into compact production clusters.

Construction and upgrade history affect its resource cost. At introduction it cost 20 Log, 20 Plank, and 20 Gear; later versions changed the cost to 40 Log and 10 Metal Part. The Press was introduced in Update 4.

Practical usage and layout notes:

  • Scale production to demand: Canola Oil is consumed in large quantities late game. A small cluster of several Presses (a half dozen is a reasonable starting point) is typical for sustaining major Food Factory and Grease Factory lines.
  • Place Presses near canola fields and seed storage to minimize transport. Having a large warehouse nearby for Canola Seeds reduces logistics strain.
  • Use a dedicated liquid tank set to supply nearby consumers. The Presses can output into tanks for stable distribution; set tank priorities to ensure consistent supply to Food Factories, Fermenters, and Grease Factories.
  • Transporting seeds vs. oil: because the conversion is one-to-one (1 seed → 1 oil), there is no efficiency advantage to transporting seeds instead of oil across district crossings. Choose whichever logistics flow simplifies your layout.
  • Planting ratios to plan crop area: approximate crop ratios to support downstream production are useful when sizing canola fields—common heuristics are 1 Canola (crop) per 8 Soybean demand, 3 Canola (crop) per 4 Eggplant demand, or 9 Canola (crop) per 1 Hydroponic Garden producing Algae. Use these ratios to estimate how many Presses and how much storage you need.

Visual examples and layout inspirations exist in community galleries showing compact clusters of Oil Presses adjacent to tanks and warehouses. Configure power inputs to avoid blocking the doorway side so Presses remain serviceable and maintainable.
