Overview

Oil Press is a production building that converts Canola Seeds into Canola Oil. Canola Oil is an intermediate resource used by Fermenters to make Fermented Soybean, by Food Factories to make Eggplant Rations and Algae Rations, and by Grease Factories to make Grease. The Oil Press processes Canola Seeds at a one-to-one rate: one seed yields one unit of canola oil.

The Oil Press accepts and transmits power through every side block except through its doorway, and it also accepts/transmits power underneath. These power routing characteristics make placement and orientation important when integrating presses into power grids and production lines.

The building’s availability and construction requirements changed during development. In Version 1 its cost was 20 Log, 20 Plank, and 20 Gear, which was later adjusted to 40 Log and 10 Metal Part. The Oil Press was introduced in Update 4.

Practical notes and common strategies:

  • Scale production for late game: Canola Oil is consumed in large quantities by food production and Bot boosts, so multiple presses are recommended. Starting with around half a dozen presses is a typical baseline.
  • Placement: build presses near large canola fields to minimize transport time and throughput constraints.
  • Storage: keep a large warehouse nearby for storing canola seeds so presses remain supplied without frequent interruptions.
  • Liquid handling: set up a large tank configured to supply nearby facilities with the produced canola oil.
  • Logistics flexibility: because the conversion is 1 seed to 1 oil, transporting either seeds or oil between districts provides no intrinsic efficiency advantage. Use whichever transport flow integrates better with your district layout.
  • Planting and production ratios: approximate crop planning ratios for canola-centric supply chains are commonly used. Useful approximate ratios are 1 Canola crop to support 8 Soybean production, 3 Canola crops to support 4 Eggplant production, and about 9 Canola crops to support one Hydroponic Garden producing Algae.

Designing an efficient canola-to-oil network requires balancing field output, press throughput, storage capacity, and downstream consumption. Place power connections to take advantage of side and bottom transmission, ensure continuous feeding from nearby warehouses or tanks, and scale the number of presses to match your late-game demand for food and grease.
