Overview

Dynamite is a landscaping buildable used to remove terrain in Timberborn. There are three strengths: Dynamite, Double Dynamite, and Triple Dynamite. Each removes a set number of terrain blocks when detonated and is unlocked through the science tree. Builders convert Explosives and Extract into the dynamite variants as required for construction.

Dynamite can only be constructed on Paths and cannot be built on the map's lowest level. Dynamite may be placed underwater. After placement, selecting a dynamite unit and using the Detonate command triggers an explosion. Detonated dynamite will trigger the detonation of any adjacent dynamite at the same height, producing chain reactions that can flatten large areas quickly. Fields of dynamite can be detonated instantly using Detonators. Dynamite cannot destroy Badwater Sources or Water Sources.

  • Construction strengths and costs:
  • Builders turn Explosives and Extract into Dynamite, Double Dynamite, or Triple Dynamite depending on the recipe.
  • Usage: place on Paths (can be underwater), select a placed dynamite, and choose Detonate to explode. Adjacent dynamite at the same elevation will chain-react.
  • Limitations: cannot be placed on the map's lowest level and cannot destroy Badwater Sources or Water Sources.
  • History notes: Dynamite was introduced in Early Access. Update 2 added the restriction against building on the lowest map level. Update 5 introduced Double and Triple versions, updated models, allowed placement under pump pipes, and added a detonation keybinding. Update 6 allowed dynamite to be built on Paths.
  • Trivia: Timberborn’s dynamite is based on nitroglycerin as the primary explosive. Historically, Alfred Nobel stabilized nitroglycerin by mixing it with an absorbent like diatomaceous earth to create dynamite. Later, gelignite replaced diatomaceous earth as a better agent for containing nitroglycerin and preventing leaks.
