Overview

Suspension Bridges are a buildable path structure used to span deep or wide gaps where normal ground or short bridges are impractical. Each suspension bridge is placed as a multi-block span with a free footing block that anchors the span to ground; the named size (for example, "Suspension Bridge 3x1") refers to the span-only length, while the actual in-game footprint includes one additional footing block at an end. Suspension Bridges transmit their load primarily through their cables to the anchor footing blocks rather than relying on rigid support along their length.

Construction is performed by builders who can begin building an adjacent bridge block even if they do not have direct access to the far base, because the next bridge block can be reached from the tip of the already-placed span. This allows quick, continuous construction across deep chasms or broken terrain without the need to reach each intermediate tile by land.

Materials scale directly with the span length. Every block of span (the named size units) costs 4 Logs and 4 Planks; the footing that anchors the span is free. Example costs:

Practical notes and interactions:

  • Plan for the free footing: the bridge’s anchor occupies one tile beyond the listed span, so measure clearances and foundation placement accordingly when lining up multiple bridges or connecting to paths.
  • Use suspension bridges to cross very deep ravines or fluid bodies where supporting pillars are impossible; their construction behavior makes long continuous crossings fast to place.
  • Suspension bridges are flexible and modeled to transfer load into their anchors via their cables. They are visually and mechanically distinct from rigid bridge types and better suited for long unsupported spans.
  • The construction recipe no longer includes metal components as of Update 6; they are significantly cheaper than in earlier versions.
  • Because bridge blocks are placed sequentially from existing span tips, it is efficient to build long bridges from one side rather than attempting to meet in the middle.

Suspension Bridges are categorized under Buildings and Paths and Structures and were introduced in the game's Early Access launch.
