Pine Tree

Pine Tree is a harvestable tree found naturally in the Pine Forest biome, and it can also appear on Fir Grass blocks in any biome. It is one of the game’s renewable hardwood sources and is tied to both wild biome generation and player planting, making it useful early and late in progression.

A Pine Tree can be cut down with a Copper Axe or any better axe. When felled, it yields 3 Hard Wood Log and 1–2 Pine Cone items; if the stump is also chopped, it produces 4 Hard Wood Log total. The Pine Cone is the tree’s replanting item, and burying one in a hole on dirt or sand will grow a new Pine Tree in any biome. After planting, it takes about 5 in-game days to reach full height.

The Plant Book can be used on a Pine Tree to check its maturity while it is growing. Once the tree is fully grown, the book no longer displays data for it. This makes it easy to tell when the tree has finished developing and is ready to harvest for hardwood or cones.

Pine Trees are also part of the game’s giant-tree mechanic. If a Fertiliser bag is buried near or next to a fully grown Pine Tree and the player sleeps, the tree can transform into a giant version. The same applies to Blackwood Trees. If the tree was grown from seeds rather than appearing naturally, it must first reach full size before it can become giant. Cutting down a giant tree leaves behind a stump that the player can pick up.

Pine Trees are valuable for their wood output and for maintaining a supply of Pine Cones for replanting. Because they can be grown in any biome, they are a practical source of Hard Wood Logs away from the Pine Forest, as long as the ground is suitable for planting. Their natural growth also makes them part of the year-round regeneration of the landscape, alongside Fir Grass and Common Heath.
