Overview

The Adventurer's Journal is the main menu and progress tracker used throughout Dinkum. It is given to the player by Fletch on Day 1, and once it is received the game clock and calendar begin. From that point onward, it records the player’s day-to-day activity and serves as a central place to check growth, goals, and island progress.

Opening the Adventurer's Journal brings up a set of tabs that cover most of the player’s long-term information and records. It can be opened with the journal button, and controller players can refer to the controls menu for assistance. The journal is not just a passive log: it is one of the most important interfaces for tracking advancement, rewards, collections, and household management.

Its tabs include:

  • Milestones: tasks that reward Permit Points when completed.
  • Tasks: quests received from NPCs, the Bulletin Board, or pinned Crafting Recipes.
  • Pedia: records Fish, Bugs, and Critters that have been caught or donated to the Museum Deed, and also lists people the player has met along with relationship status.
  • My Details: shows Dinks in the player’s pocket and bank, current skill levels, current Licences held, and the age of the island.
  • Photos: stores photos taken with a Camera or Camera Tripod.
  • Animals: tracks animals bought from Irwin’s Barn or tamed by the player, and allows them to be renamed; animals are grouped by the home they live in.
  • Options: contains game settings, plus a Help section with information on Stamina, Health, and Buffs. In single-player, the game can also be paused from here.

Because the journal combines records, progress goals, personal stats, and collection tracking, it is a core part of managing a save file. It is especially useful for checking what still needs to be completed for Permit Points, reviewing relationship progress, and keeping track of animals and discoveries without needing to search elsewhere.
