NPC Village
Overview
An NPC Village is a world biome where the player can find NPCs while exploring. Like Caves and the Dungeon, it is one of the places where NPCs naturally appear in the world, and it is closely tied to settlement progression because many of the NPCs found there can later be hired to live in the player’s town. Some NPCs also visit settlements over time even if they are not initially recruitable.
NPC villages are especially important because several settlers have special recruitment conditions tied to them. For example, some NPCs can only join after defeating specific bosses or completing certain quests, and some are only found in NPC villages rather than as ordinary wanderers. A few NPCs are not recruitable at all, but may still appear as visitors or remain part of the village itself.
NPCs recruited from an NPC Village use the same general settlement systems as other settlers. Once hired, they can haul, craft, farm, and do forestry, with some having extra specialties such as hunting, fishing, fertilizing fields, husbandry, enchanting, mining trips, exploration trips, or changing the player’s appearance. Their happiness depends on room size, furniture, and food quality, and happier settlers work better, take fewer and shorter breaks, and offer better shop prices.
When interacting with an NPC Village, it helps to keep in mind that settlement NPCs can die to raids or monster attacks if they are left exposed. Bosses summoned near the settlement can also kill them, so it is safer to avoid summoning dangerous bosses too close to town. If a settler dies, the same type of NPC has a very high chance to arrive again later for recruitment.
A few practical points make NPC villages especially useful:
- NPCs in villages can become part of your settlement once their recruitment requirements are met.
- Some settlers need coins for special services, such as the
Mage,
Angler,
Explorer, and
Stylist.
- NPCs can be sent into an Adventure Party, but this increases boss health and slightly increases cave enemy spawn rates.
- Adventure Party members need food, healing items, and sometimes recall scrolls to survive longer expeditions.
- NPCs may leave if they are hungry or unhappy, so it is important to provide communal storage and keep their needs satisfied.
Overall, an NPC Village is a key early-to-midgame location for meeting important settlers, unlocking specialized services, and expanding a settlement with unique NPC roles.
