Overview

The Inventor is a Timberborn production building that generates Science. It produces Science at the slowest rate among the dedicated research buildings in the game. The Observatory and Numbercruncher are the other buildings that produce Science; both produce Science more efficiently than the Inventor.

Inventors were introduced in Open Alpha. During Closed Beta their efficiency was increased by 50%. At Early Access Launch the building was renamed from Inventor’s Hut to Inventor. In Update 2 the production rate was changed to one Science Point per hour.

Inventors function as workplaces for beavers assigned to research duties. Because their output per worker is low, they are commonly used to give otherwise idle beavers a low-priority job that contributes progressively to the settlement’s research stock. Inventors do not replace higher-tier research buildings when rapid Science Point accumulation is required, but they provide a steady trickle of research over time.

  • Place Inventors where you have spare beavers rather than allocating workers from more critical production chains.
  • Set workplace priority for spare Inventors to very low so that beavers only work there when unemployed or when higher-priority jobs are unavailable.
  • Use Inventors in early and mid game to maximize productivity of surplus workforce while you build more efficient research buildings like the Observatory and Numbercruncher.
  • Expect slow Science Point gains from each Inventor; scale by building multiple Inventors only if you cannot immediately access the more efficient research structures.

The Chinese localization for Inventor is Inventor. Example gallery images exist showing the building in-game, illustrating typical placement and scale relative to other structures.
