Overview

The Hardlight Shield Generator is a wearable defensive trinket that provides an additional hardlight barrier when equipped. It is a repurposed Gatekeeper hardlight shield adapted for personal use; when active it produces a Hardlight Shield that blocks physical attacks and serves as an extra layer of protection separate from the wearer’s armor.

The shield has a fixed maximum of 150 shield health. It passively regenerates at 10 shield health per second but only after a recovery delay: 7 seconds of no further damage to begin regeneration, and a 15 second delay if the shield has been fully depleted. When the trinket is first equipped the shield starts at 0 health and a 15 second recharge delay applies before any regeneration can begin. Damage absorbed by the Hardlight Shield is not modified by the wearer’s equipped armor values.

Beyond its worn function, the Hardlight Shield Generator can be deployed in the environment. Because the generated Hardlight Shield can be placed on vertical surfaces, it is useful for creating impassable barriers, covering open windows, and spanning gaps between otherwise inaccessible locations. These placement abilities allow the device to be used both defensively (blocking lines of fire or funneling enemies) and as a traversal or map-manipulation tool to reach areas that would otherwise require different movement options.

Practical notes and interactions:

  • The shield blocks physical damage but does not change or scale with armor; treat its 150 health as a separate buffer that must be managed independently from armor durability.
  • After the shield takes damage, expect a 7 second downtime before regeneration resumes; plan engagements so you are not relying on immediate recovery.
  • If the shield is broken, allow a full 15 seconds for recharge before it begins rebuilding; avoiding full depletion preserves quicker recovery.
  • Because the trinket begins inactive on equip, avoid relying on instant protection right after swapping to the item—wait the initial 15 seconds for the shield to charge.
  • Use wall placement to make temporary cover, block chokepoints, cover windows for defensive holds, or create stepping/bridging surfaces to reach otherwise inaccessible spots.
  • Placement on walls makes the generator effective both offensively (denying enemy approaches) and for utility (creating new paths), so carry it for versatile encounters where map control matters.
