Zip Shield

Zip Shield is a personal Hardlight Shield trinket that creates a protective barrier which blocks physical attacks. The shield has a maximum of 200 shield health and regenerates at a rate of 30 shield health per second. Regeneration begins after a 4 second delay when the shield is damaged; if the shield is fully depleted it has a longer 9 second delay before recharge. When the trinket is first equipped it starts with 0 shield health and cannot begin recharging for 9 seconds.

The device is built around a dense "zip" array of micro-capacitors; its design purpose is to sacrifice raw shield power for much faster recharge characteristics compared with earlier or alternate shield generators. Equipped body armor values do not change how much damage the Zip Shield can absorb, so armor and the shield act independently for damage mitigation.

• Use Zip Shield when you want quick recovery between encounters rather than a large static buffer. Its rapid regen makes hit-and-run playstyles and repeated short skirmishes favorable.
• Because the shield starts empty on equip and has a full 9 second initial delay, avoid swapping to it mid-fight; equip it before entering combat to ensure the shield is available.
• The 4 second regen delay after taking damage means brief flurries of hits can be absorbed if you can avoid damage for those few seconds; conversely, sustained DPS that fully breaks the shield incurs the longer 9 second downtime.
• Zip Shield pairs well with defensive cooldowns or abilities that create short windows of invulnerability or repositioning, allowing the shield to recover quickly between those windows.
• Since armor does not affect shield absorption, prioritize armor upgrades for reducing incoming damage to health and rely on the Zip Shield solely for blocking physical hits while it is active.
• Despite flavor text implying reduced power, Zip Shield actually provides more shield HP and substantially better regeneration than the Hardlight Shield Generator it upgrades from, making it a strong choice when recharge speed is a priority.
