Overview

Thunder Egg is a large item that can appear during thunderstorms. It is created when lightning strikes an empty tile, and a loud crack of thunder is the first clue that one has fallen nearby. Once a Thunder Egg spawns, it remains on the ground until the player picks it up, so it can be left for later if needed.

Thunderstorms can occur in any season, but they are more common in Spring and Summer. They are shown by the thunderstorm icon on the Weather Station. Thunder Eggs are not guaranteed to appear in every storm, so some thunderstorms will pass without creating one. When searching, listen carefully for the crackling or sparking sound it makes; raising the game volume helps, and marking the area with a waypoint can make it easier to return and search again on a dry day. Using the Fortuitous Wish at the Wish Fountain Deed increases the chance of finding a Thunder Egg.

Like other large items, a Thunder Egg can be carried overhead or placed on a vehicle for transport. It can also pass through the Tele Tower and Tele Pad while being carried. If you want to turn it into materials, breaking it open yields 4 Opals, which are used in advanced crafting at Franklyn’s Lab and with Ted Selly.

Thunder Egg also has several money-making and utility uses:

  • Take it to John’s Goods and place it on the scale to receive a sale price based on its weight.
  • If John’s offer is poor, you can sleep, save, reload, and weigh it again in hopes of a better price.
  • If John offers less than the value you want for the intact egg, breaking it open and selling the Opals can be the better choice, depending on your Commerce Licence.
  • It can be displayed as a decoration.
  • It can be kept for photo requests from NPCs, or photographed with a Camera or Camera Tripod before selling it to John.

Because it does not disappear after spawning, Thunder Egg is one of the few storm-related finds that can be safely collected later, making it worth checking stormy areas thoroughly after the weather clears.
