unit-cyerce

Overview

Cyerce is a naval frigate-class unit introduced in Mindustry’s 7.0 cycle that combines short-to-mid range burst offense with on-board repair support for allied vessels and buildings. It rides in the naval unit roster alongside ships like the Bryde and Aegires; while its raw offensive range is lower than some contemporaries, its distinguishing feature is a pair of repair emitters that can sustain nearby friendly units and structures during engagements.

Offensively, the Cyerce mounts a dual-role armament: two rapid repair beams dedicated to supporting allies, and a primary missile weapon that fires in a clustered, homing pattern. The missile battery fires two launchers at a rate of 0.5 shots/sec each, producing a main impact of 25 damage with ~25 area damage (splash radius ~3.7 tiles) and spawning seven frag bullets on detonation. Each frag deals 11 damage with 13 area damage (splash radius ~2.5 tiles), and the frags possess homing behavior plus a small repair factor (reported as 2.8% repair), making engagements both damaging and sustain-oriented.

Tactically, the Cyerce excels as a support-offense hybrid: its clustered projectiles are capable of very high cumulative damage at close range, but the lower firing rate and shorter reach make it vulnerable to long-range naval combatants such as the Bryde. Best uses emphasize pairing the Cyerce with aggressive heavy ships (for example, Sei-class attackers) so those frontliners can capitalize on the ship’s onboard repairs rather than relying solely on stationary Repair Turrets or the much heavier Aegires. Combining Cyerces with Oxynoe-class vessels can further amplify offensive persistence, letting missile boats remain in combat longer without expensive infrastructure.

When facing Cyerces, exploit their limited range by letting long-range units like Ripples or other artillery trade from a distance. Fast, high-DPS attackers such as Fuse or Scorch are effective counters as they reduce the time the Cyerce has to repair allies. Lancers and other close-range brawlers can shred Cyerces in melee due to the support ship’s modest fire rate, though the repair output can complicate sustained dives if not neutralized quickly.

Relevant development notes: Cyerce was added in Version 7.0 and has seen iterative tuning—movement speed was normalized to tiles/second, range was bumped (from 24 to 27 blocks), and a previous command limit was removed. Its in-game description was clarified to emphasize that its missiles seek enemy targets while its repair systems aid allies.

  • Strengths: strong burst damage via cluster missiles; onboard repairs reduce reliance on repair infrastructure and increase fleet survivability.
  • Weaknesses: shorter range than some counterparts, low fire rate, and vulnerable to sustained high-DPS attacks if repairs can’t outpace incoming damage.
  • Deployment tips: position slightly behind primary attackers so repair beams can reach them while keeping the Cyerce safe; pair with offensive ships to maximize value; prioritize neutralizing repair points when engaging enemy Cyerces to prevent prolonged fights.
  • Trivia: the unit’s name references the sacoglossan sea-slug genus Cyerce.
