Overview

Oxynoe is a naval tier-2 unit that supports allied vessels by repairing structures with a flame-based attack while also providing short-range point-defense against enemy projectiles. It appears in naval compositions on water maps and is commonly used to buff and sustain faster or glassier units during raids. Oxynoe combines a healing flamethrower that applies a brief Overclock-like effect with a small turret that intercepts incoming projectiles.

The main weapon fires dual short-range plasma/flame streams that repair friendly structures and units on contact while dealing damage and inflicting Burning on enemies for several seconds. The flamethrower has a high effective DPS for its tier and heals a percentage of damage as structure repair; its firing pattern is rapid (two bursts at roughly 6 shots per second total) with noticeable inaccuracy. The secondary mount is a point-defense turret that shoots rapidly at incoming projectiles, knocking down many long-range shots and reducing the effectiveness of some enemy turrets. The point defense weapon fires about 6.66 shots per second and deals 15–17 damage to projectiles, functioning solely to intercept ordnance rather than directly engaging enemy units.

In practice, Oxynoe excels when kept out of direct contact with enemy frontlines but close enough to protect and repair allied ships. It is not typically a direct threat to a Core unless the Core is positioned extremely close to water; its strength is support and sustained DPS rather than tanking. Oxynoes often appear in late-game naval waves, sometimes paired with larger attackers like Omura and Sei to buff their damage and speed. The Overclock-style status field from its flamethrower lingers for about six seconds, making coordinated strikes particularly potent when multiple units are present.

  • Oxynoes can be countered by long-range weapons that stay out of point-defense range (e.g., Ripple), but their projectiles may be destroyed by the Oxynoe’s point defense. Direct high-damage glassy units like Fuses and Lancers bypass point-defense and can shred Oxynoes if they get in range. Foreshadows and other precision long-range attackers can pick them off before they activate their support field.
  • When using Oxynoes offensively, pair them with faster naval units from a second Naval Factory to amplify an entire squad’s damage and speed. Without logic micro, Oxynoes may rush ahead of slower units; simple micromanagement (ordering the group to move, selecting only Oxynoes, and keeping them near the squad) prevents them from outpacing teammates.
  • Maintain repair redundancy during naval engagements: use Poly/Mega/Mend Projectors or units that can rebuild (Octs) because Oxynoe’s healing cannot substitute for concentrated repair after heavy hits or area-of-effect damage. Diverting large enemy shots away from key targets while the Overclock field persists improves survivability.
  • Oxynoe flames can be reflected by Phase Wall, Large Phase Wall, and Shielded Wall; reflected flames immediately heal the targeted block, nullifying damage and effectively turning defenses into instant repairs if positioned correctly.

Historical notes: Oxynoe was added in Build 127. Subsequent updates adjusted speed, item capacity, flamethrower repair percentage, and the status field parameters; its point-defense damage and effective range have also changed across builds. Oxynoe and Mace are the only units that use flame-based attacks, and despite using burning flames, Oxynoe is not immune to the Burning status. The unit is named after the Oxynoe genus of sea snails.
