Overview
The Weasel Chieftain is a boss encounter in Ratopia fought as a large boar-like creature. It is a straightforward early boss, but it has several distinct attacks and a second phase that changes its behavior and appearance once it has taken enough damage. In its first phase, it can kick with its rear hoof to hit targets behind it or thrust with its tusks to hit targets in front of it. After it loses enough health, its hoof and tusk attacks are replaced by a faster variant in which it attacks twice in quick succession, and its appearance changes with a fiery red eye.
Its special ability is a charge that deals damage, knocks back targets, and destroys blocks in its path. The charge does not happen randomly on its own; it occurs periodically only after the boss has taken some damage. If the charge destroys at least 5 blocks, the Weasel Chieftain is briefly stunned afterward. The arena also contains two healing potions placed on the left and right sides, and destroying either one releases an area-of-effect heal.
In practice, the fight is relatively manageable, especially compared with Piggy. When the boss is not charging, it moves very slowly, so ranged weapons such as a bow are effective, and an estoc also works well if you attack and retreat before it can retaliate. A common approach is to bait the boss into its charge pattern and use its movement against it.
- After it begins charging left, quickly build a 5-block-wide row of dirt blocks before it turns around.
- When it charges back to the right, it will crash into the blocks and become stunned.
- Use the stun window to deal more damage, then repeat the process until it is defeated.
The Weasel Chieftain is also notable for being the game’s only in-game example of a large animal, with its black boar design standing out among the game’s other animal references.
