farming

Farming in TBH: Task Bar Hero is the combination of stage selection, party composition, rune investment, and inventory management that maximizes gold, chests, and usable gear while minimizing wasted time. Good farming practices let you buy important Runes, unlock party slots, and feed the Cube without turning play into busywork.

Goals and priorities

  • Prioritize unlocking the second and third hero slots (Rune of Command) early — more heroes outperforms scattering +1% stat nodes while slots remain locked.
  • Early rune priorities after hero slots: auto-open chests / Far North automation, gold and XP bonuses (including Cube Alchemy gold), then chest drop chance and gold-from-kills.
  • Short active sessions (20–30 minutes) deliver far more progression than long offline periods because offline play does not drop normal or boss chests. Use offline only as supplemental gold/XP, not as your main chest/gear source.

Stage selection and AFK loop

  • Farm the last comfortable stage you can reliably clear. If you hit a wall, use the blue portal to drop back and farm earlier stages for gear and levels.
  • Optimize an AFK/background loop:
    • Pick the last comfortable stage.
    • Enable Auto-retry so failed runs restart automatically.
    • Unlock auto-open chest (Far North rune) for true AFK chest loops.
    • Use Alchemy to convert overflow gear into rune-funding gold.
    • Periodically check your inventory and the Steam Market for trading opportunities.
  • For boss and act progression: collect and hold Soul Stones for the act boss. A Soul Stone is consumed only when you successfully defeat the boss.

Party composition for farming

  • Early-game recommended duo (after unlocking second slot): Ranger + Priest. Ranger clears waves fast while Priest buffs/heals, producing consistent chest and gold income.
  • Best general farming trio: Knight + Ranger + Priest is stable and market-friendly; swap Knight for Sorcerer when you can survive and want higher clear speed.
    • Rule of thumb: add Knight for survivability, Sorcerer for damage if your front line is stable.
  • Consider gear and rune synergies: prioritize drop rate and gold runes early over small DPS increases for longer-term growth.

Rune and progression strategy for efficient farming

  • Immediate priorities:
    1. Unlock second and third hero slots.
    2. Auto-open chests (Far North path).
    3. Gold and XP nodes (including Cube Alchemy percent).
    4. Chest drop chance and gold-from-kills.
    5. Inventory/stash upgrades and offline reward nodes.
  • Invest in the second active skill slot (Rune of Awakening) after you secure a three-hero setup — it’s a major power spike.
  • Use offline runes to top up gold and XP when you’re truly offline, but remember offline play yields no chests.

Inventory, Cube, Alchemy, and Synthesis

  • The Cube unlocks at level 4 and is central to item progression: Synthesize nine items of the same rarity to attempt an upgrade; Alchemy converts unwanted items to gold.
  • Use Alchemy:
    • Early and mid-game when you need gold to unlock important rune nodes (especially hero slots and auto-open).
    • When inventory is clogged with duplicate whites/greens you won’t use.
    • As part of your AFK loop to fund further rune buys.
  • Synthesize rules and safety:
    • Synthesis requires nine items of the same rarity and yields a random higher-rarity piece; it’s best used when you have duplicates and know you can spare the materials.
    • Do not rely on Auto-Fill without checking — it can consume items you intended to keep.
    • Lock BiS pieces using Alt+click (or the platform-equivalent) before bulk alchemy/synthesis.
  • Item handling rules:
    • Each class can equip only certain item types—hover items to confirm stats and requirements.
    • Keep decoration, engraving, crafting materials, Soul Stones, and high-level gear you can’t equip in the Stash.
    • Preserve some good white (common) bases for future synthesis/crafting; don’t melt every white immediately.
    • Use Alchemy for mass gold conversion rather than selling single items when you need rune funds quickly.

When to use the Steam Market

  • Use the Steam Community Market to turn unwanted high-rarity drops into gold or to buy specific missing pieces when RNG is unkind.
  • Items purchased via the Market arrive in the in-game mailbox and must be claimed.
  • Market activity pairs well with long sessions and a market-focused AFK build; verify item rarity before listing or buying.

Practical session checklist

  • Before leaving a farming session:
    • Ensure Auto-retry is on.
    • Farm the last comfortable stage (or set a portal fallback).
    • Auto-open chest rune unlocked if available.
    • Alchemy overflow gear to fund imminent rune purchases.
    • Lock BiS gear to avoid accidental Alchemy/synthesis consumption.
    • Move Soul Stones and tradeable items into Stash if needed.

When you get stuck

  • Drop back through the portal and farm earlier stages for gear and levels.
  • Turn on Auto-retry and emphasize gold/drop runes if you need to afford the third hero slot or Cube upgrades.
  • Return to pushing only after you secure a three-hero setup and key automation runes.

Following these guidelines will keep your progression steady: secure hero slots and automation first, run active sessions for chests, use Alchemy to fund runes, preserve useful base items, and swap party members between survivability and damage depending on whether you need more stability or faster clears.
