Overview

The Lantern is a small decorative building placed on platforms to provide light and aesthetic detail to a beaver settlement. It appears as a standalone object that fits under a Double Platform and is used primarily to illuminate nearby squares and enhance the visual appearance of streets and public areas.

Lanterns are constructed as part of the platform building family and require placement beneath an existing Double Platform. They do not occupy a full tile on their own and must be attached to platform structures rather than placed on open ground. In practice this means planning platform layouts with overhangs or pedestrian routes where a Lantern can hang and cast light across walkways.

  • Lanterns provide localized illumination that increases the visible brightness of adjacent tiles; they are intended for decorative and atmospheric lighting rather than as a functional replacement for work-area lighting systems.
  • Placement considerations: because a Lantern must sit under a Double Platform, design walkways and platform overhangs to leave space for Lanterns where light is desired. They work well along streets, near residences, and at platform entrances.
  • Construction chain and resource costs are minimal compared with larger service buildings; treat Lanterns as light, inexpensive decoration that improves settlement ambience.
  • Visual use: Lanterns are shown both in use attached to platforms and as part of dedicated builds, making them suitable for themed districts and scenic viewpoints.

Lanterns do not perform complex game functions beyond lighting and decoration, and they integrate into platform-based construction schemes to help shape the look and feel of the town.
