Axes

Overview

Axes are tools used for chopping trees and harvesting wood-related resources in Dinkum. They are tied to the Logging Licence, which determines when the player can buy axes and unlocks better axe recipes at higher levels. The basic axe is available from John’s Goods, and stronger versions become craftable as the licence level increases.

The Logging Licence has three relevant stages for axes: level 1 allows the player to buy axes and chop down trees, while levels 2 and 3 unlock recipes for better axes. The licence’s permit point costs rise from 0 at level 1 to 10 at level 2 and 20 at level 3, with the required skill based on Foraging progress.

Axes have repairable durability and can be fixed at the Repair Table. Their practical use depends on the type of axe:

  • The basic axe can chop Gum Trees for Gum Logs and Gum Nuts, Bottle Trees for Bottle Tree Wood Logs, Palm Trees for Palm Wood Logs and Palm Tree Seeds, Mangrove Trees for Mangrove Sticks, and fruit trees for fruit only.
  • It can also cut Yellow Wattle Bush and Bottle Brush Bush, with a chance to obtain their seeds for replanting.
  • It can chop Grass Tree for Spinifex Tuft and a chance at a Grass Tree Seed Pod, as well as Lilly Pilly and Small Lilly Pilly for their seeds.
  • The basic axe may also chop Jacaranda Tree for Hard Wood Log and Coral Acacia Tree for Hard Wood Log and Coral Acacia Seed.
  • The copper axe can chop the same trees as the basic axe, and it can also fell Blackwood Trees for Hard Wood Logs and Blackwood Seeds, plus Jacaranda Tree and Coral Acacia Tree.
  • The iron axe can chop all trees.
  • The candy axe has the same durability as the copper axe and can chop the same trees as the copper axe.

Because different axes unlock different tree types and drops, upgrading early makes logging more efficient and expands the range of materials that can be gathered.
