Overview

The Space Station is the central hub of your company in Foundry. It is where station upgrades are installed, where your inventory and cargo capacity are managed, and where several major systems are accessed, including the Galactic Market, ship management, the sales platform, and the R&D Lab. Expanding the station is essential, since many of its functions improve as you invest in station upgrades.

Station upgrades require Construction Materials, which are stored at the station and can be bought or sold on the Galactic Market. You begin with 1,500 Construction Materials for initial repairs, and additional materials must be obtained through trade until you can research and produce your own supply. Because upgrades feed into multiple systems, station growth is one of the main long-term progression paths in the game.

The station also has an inventory, and its cargo capacity can be increased through upgrades. This matters for storage-heavy play, especially when using the station as a logistics hub for imports, exports, and ship traffic. The Space Station is also where you manage your space ship fleet: on the ship window you can buy, sell, rename, and assign tasks to ships, making it the control center for all trade and transport operations.

Several upgrades directly affect production and economic performance:

  • Production Efficiency increases output without consuming additional input materials. For assembly line products, it improves the crafting efficiency of the items used in those lines. It starts at 2% and can be improved infinitely.
  • Product Weight reduces how much cargo space finished goods require, lowering the number of cargo ships needed for transport. It starts at 12.5% and can be improved 4 times.
  • Product Quality increases sales price. It starts at 5% and can be improved infinitely.
  • Lab Equipment improves the XP earned per product in the R&D Lab, starting at 1.05 XP.

The station’s economic systems are closely linked. The sales platform provides an automated way to sell products to casual customers once per in-game hour, with prices expected to be about 30% below average market prices in exchange for no extra management. Other selling methods take priority, so the sales platform is also a useful way to clear excess stock. On the Galactic Market, you can buy and sell goods through one-time trades or recurring orders, and idle ships can be assigned to execute those recurring trades when they have no other task.

The station also supports strategic expansion across planets and sectors. Planet commerce, market share, and sector bonuses all connect back to station growth and trade control. Achieving market dominance on all planets in a sector grants a 25% sector bonus, making the Space Station not just a base, but the foundation for trade, logistics, research, and economic dominance.
