Renale

Renale is a hidden ground unit on Serpulo that most commonly appears as a split-off unit from Latum. It is a Neoplasm-type unit with no weapons, ground-only targeting, and a largely survival-oriented role rather than direct combat. In normal play it is usually encountered when Latum dies and produces several Renale units, though it can also be spawned directly by waves or map scripts.

Like the rest of the Neoplasm line, Renale is built around self-sustaining biological behavior. It has regeneration, and it can absorb Neoplasm to recover health, making it unusually persistent when it can stay near its own mass of liquid. When it dies, it releases 120 Neoplasm, which can in turn feed other Neoplasm units. This creates a self-reinforcing cycle: Latum can split into Renale, Renale can survive by consuming nearby Neoplasm, and its death helps seed more of the same resource for the swarm.

A few practical points stand out when dealing with Renale:

• It is a hidden unit, so it is not generally treated like a standard frontline enemy.
• It is a ground unit and only targets ground units.
• It has no weapons, so its threat comes from durability, regeneration, and its interaction with Neoplasm rather than direct attacks.
• Its death creates more Neoplasm, which can sustain nearby Neoplasm units and strengthen the group over time.

Renale’s behavior makes it especially relevant in fights involving Neoplasm clusters, where killing one unit may not end the threat but instead leave behind more material for others to absorb. Because it can heal by consuming Neoplasm, areas contaminated with that liquid become much more dangerous for prolonged engagements.

The name Renale is likely derived from a parasitic worm species, Dioctophyme renale, which is associated with kidney damage in humans. It is also commonly grouped with Latum under the broader “worm” comparison because of the way these units move.
