Overview

Forest Hedge is a natural map feature that appears throughout Forest Biomes, typically forming dense, low-height barriers of vegetation that shape paths and enclose small clearings or ruins. They serve both as environmental decoration and as a minor obstacle to movement and line of sight, influencing exploration routes and encounter placement within the Forest Biome and its associated mini-biomes such as Forest Villages and ruin sites.

Forest Hedges commonly appear around the perimeter of ruined clearings and village remnants. These hedges often funnel players toward central points of interest in a clearing — for example, mini-biome ruins that contain a Barrel or Storagebox with early-game Weapons or Trinkets, or the entrances to underground areas like the Forest Caves found in Forest Villages. The hedges therefore act as passive level design elements that guide navigation without completely blocking access.

  • Hedges affect enemy placement and sightlines: dense hedge arrangements can conceal ambushes or force combatants into chokepoints, making positioning important when engaging groups such as the guarding mobs found near Dungeon Entrances or village sites.
  • Use hedges for stealth and cover: players can approach guarded ruins or NPC areas from paths carved through hedges to limit number of enemies that can engage at once, or to avoid triggering patrols prematurely.
  • Interaction with dungeon and village layouts: hedges are frequently part of the surrounding terrain for both Forest Villages and the mini-biome ruins that hold loot containers. When exploring for early-game rewards, expect hedges to delineate clearings that contain the Barrel or Storagebox rather than open, unobstructed fields.
  • Do not expect hedges to block progression: they are navigable and arranged to guide rather than prevent access, so players can move through or around them to reach Loot, NPCs, or dungeon entrances.
  • Visual cue for points of interest: dense or unusually arranged hedges commonly indicate a nearby point of interest such as a ruin with a guaranteed loot container, a Forest Village entrance to Forest Caves, or an area where tougher enemies might be stationed (for example, guarding a Dungeon Entrance).

Forest Hedge is primarily a design element rather than a resource; it rarely provides direct loot by itself but contributes to locating the containers and structures that do. Use hedges as both navigational landmarks and tactical terrain when approaching the Forest Biome’s various mini-biomes and guarded locations.
