Overview

Meat is a raw food material produced when many meat-bearing critters die or are slaughtered. It functions as a basic ingredient for several recipes and as a simple source of calories for Duplicants when cooked. Meat is obtained by processing the carcasses of specific creatures and has variable yields depending on the critter species and age.

Meat is most commonly produced by harvesting adult critters that yield meat on death or by killing critters intentionally for food. Baby critters and most morphs yield the same amount of meat as their adult counterparts when they are designated by the data table; however some species yield zero meat. The exact kilograms of meat produced and the critter’s life expectancy vary by species. Certain larger critters produce multiple kilograms (examples include species that yield 10–14 kg), while others produce only 1–2 kg or none at all. Life expectancy values for the critters range widely and are shown alongside meat yields in species-specific tables in-game.

Meat is used directly as an input in cooking appliances. Inside the Microbe Musher, raw meat can be processed into Pemmican, a preserved, high-calorie food that stores well and is useful for long-term expeditions or base food reserves. Inside the Electric Grill, meat can be prepared as Barbeque, which provides immediate cooked food for Duplicants. Using these appliances converts raw meat into higher-value consumables that restore more calories and often have better spoilage characteristics than raw meat alone.

Practical notes and interactions:

  • Use the Microbe Musher to turn meat into Pemmican when you need long-lasting, high-calorie food that resists spoilage. Pemmican is ideal for stockpiling and for use on long missions where refrigeration is limited.
  • Use the Electric Grill when you need fast-cooked meals like Barbeque to feed Duplicants quickly; cooked foods typically restore more calories per kilogram than raw meat.
  • Not all critters drop meat; consult species-specific yield information before relying on a given colony’s fauna as a food source.
  • Baby critters and most morphs generally produce the same amount of meat as indicated in species yield data.
  • Plan livestock populations and slaughtering schedules around critter life expectancy and meat yield to maximize food production efficiency.
