Bunker Tile is a special tile type used in base construction that blocks gas and liquid flow while providing high structural integrity and insulation. It functions as an impermeable building block: gases and liquids cannot pass through a Bunker Tile, and they do not transfer through it by diffusion or convection. This makes Bunker Tile ideal for creating sealed compartments, gas-proof rooms, and pressure barriers to isolate atmospheres or fluids from the rest of the base.

Bunker Tile appears as a building that occupies a single tile and is typically used where airtight separation or strong resistance to external pressure is required. It is more robust than ordinary tiles for withstanding overpressure situations and is commonly used to construct vaults around volatile machinery, to contain dangerous gases, or to form the hull of pressurized chambers. Because it blocks gas and liquid movement completely, it also prevents the transfer of germs, making it useful in biosecurity designs and containment of contaminated materials.

When using Bunker Tile, plan around its impermeability: rooms sealed with Bunker Tile require internal sources or conduits (such as gas pipes, vents, or gas pumps connecting through deliberate openings) to exchange gases or to supply oxygen and remove CO2. Do not rely on passive diffusion through tiles to ventilate bunker-sealed spaces. Overpressure can render certain devices nonfunctional if the device’s tile becomes overpressurized; Bunker Tile helps manage and contain such pressure but also prevents equipment that requires a free column of gas from operating if completely enclosed without proper plumbing or vents.

Practical considerations and strategies:

  • Use Bunker Tile to create airtight airlocks, saferooms, and containment vaults for hazardous atmospheres or high-pressure gas pockets.
  • Combine Bunker Tile with doors, airlocks, and controlled vents to allow safe ingress/egress without compromising seals.
  • Place gas pumps, pipe vents, or gas permeable tiles deliberately where you want controlled exchange; do not expect Bunker Tile to let oxygen or other gases pass.
  • For temperature control, remember that impermeable tiles prevent convective heat transfer through the tile; heat management must use conductive paths, radiant cooling, or localized HVAC devices.
  • Bunker Tile is effective at preventing germ spread between rooms, making it suitable for quarantine chambers or to isolate contaminated algae/slime sources.
  • When containing overpressure or volatile gases, ensure pressure relief systems or controlled exhaust paths exist to avoid trapping devices in a state where they cannot operate due to excessive local gas mass.
