Apothecary

Overview

The Apothecary is a building that manufactures medications used by your colony. These medications serve two fundamental roles: some help prevent disease from occurring, while others are intended to alleviate or cure illnesses that have already appeared. As a production-focused facility, the Apothecary sits at the intersection of healthcare and supply logistics, turning inputs into consumable treatments that reduce morbidity and protect duplicant productivity.

Practical notes for using the Apothecary effectively:

  • Keep a steady stock of both preventive and curative medications. Preventive treatments are best kept available before outbreaks or when duplicants face persistent infection risks; curative treatments should be reserved for when sickness appears so they can be administered without delay.
  • Integrate the Apothecary with your colony’s medical infrastructure. Store its output close to infirmaries, medbeds, or other points where sick duplicants are cared for to minimize delay between diagnosis and treatment.
  • Prioritize production based on threat and capacity. If disease risk is high, allocate more resources to preventive medicine; if you already face active illnesses, shift production toward curative drugs.
  • Manage raw materials and storage to prevent spoilage and ensure rapid access. Regularly monitor inventory levels so the Apothecary can continue producing the kinds of medication the colony needs most.
  • Use the Apothecary as part of an overall disease-mitigation plan that includes hygiene, isolation of infected individuals, and preventive dosing where applicable.

The Apothecary’s outputs are critical for maintaining colony health: preventive medications reduce the chance that disease will take hold, and curative medications relieve or eliminate conditions once they appear. Proper placement, stock management, and production prioritization ensure that the building contributes reliably to colony resilience against biological threats.
